san diego: spring break at the del

March 25, 2017

i’ve dreamt of visiting hotel del coronado ever since i watched the movie ‘some like it hot’ when i was in my early 20’s. there was just something about the timeless, white, wood frame architecture on the beach that drew me to this iconic spot. back then, i never imagined i would get to visit it one day with my husband and two daughters…

we arrived in san diego at night time and were pleasantly surprised with the short 15 minute drive to the hotel. i was in awe over all the twinkly lights that lit up this charming little island called coronado as we drove over the bridge. we didn’t do our research before we came, and were pleasantly surprised that the hotel was situated in such a thriving little town. everything was picture perfect.

the next two days we were busy exploring the hotel and all the amenities it offered. there were many highlights… the deuce coupe bike rental was a lot of fun. the girls got to sit back and relax while their dad and i pedalled them around the island. the kids scavenger hunt was a neat way to see the hotel in its entirety, and the highlight for the girls was the treat they received in the candy shop once it was completed. obviously! 😉 the hubby and i enjoyed ocean front, outdoor spin class in the morning, a delicious brunch at ‘sheer water’ and live music and cocktails at ‘babcock & story.’

my one regret is that we didn’t plan enough time to explore the island. we only stayed three nights, and it was just enough time for the four of us to soak up the beach & hotel activities. If we ever get the chance to visit again, i’ll also choose to go at a warmer time of year so we can enjoy the pools. sadly it was too windy and cold this trip.

Thank-you so much to flytographer for capturing our family at this phase of our lives at this iconic hotel. these are memories we will hold onto forever.

* this post is not sponsored by hotel del coronado. visiting this hotel has been on our family bucket list for years and i am so happy to share our experience in this space.
