summer bucket list

June 28, 2017

in previous years, i have over scheduled our summers. our intention with summer this year will be a little different. it’s the first summer where the girls are playing really well together. it has been so nice not shipping them off to different full day camps each week and enjoying more of them together at home. summer is the best season for their sweet little sisterhood bond to grow and i wouldn’t want to interrupt this natural process in anyway.

that being said, it’s still important for me to have some summer outings & activities planned. i will just be a lot more relaxed than i have been in previous years. if it happens and works with our schedule – great! but, if not, i’m going to try and not worry about it. and, i’m not going to put so much fuss into trying to make these special events perfect, because simplicity is key.

i’ve always been a serious list maker, so writing out the key items we want to do this summer is such a great way for me to plan the season. i can then go through our calendar and see where each activity fits in. writing out a good list instantly helps melt stress away, so if there is any bit of anxiousness i’m feeling about ‘time slipping away’  a good list will nip that in the bud.

here are the items on our ‘family summer wish list’ this year. come to think about it, these are pretty consistent year after year. the good news is we’ve already checked some times off the list!

  • have a water balloon fight & swim in an outdoor pool (preferably all at once!)
  • be tourists in our home town… and visit a neighbourhood or restaurant we’ve never been too
  • join the summer library reading club
  • make popsicles
  • host a BBQ with lots of friends & children running around
  • have a lemonade stand
  • go on weekly family bike rides for ice cream after dinner
  • go berry picking and make smoothies for breakfast
  • go camping with friends & make s’mores
  • vist the beach with the grandparents and build a sand castle
  • visit a farmer’s market every week, so we have a constant supply of fresh veggies & berries
  • sneak away for a weekend trip to indulge in summer in a place away from home

at the end of the day, it’s about spending quality time together. it’s about building on traditions and making memories. what are we missing here?

summer thus far…

So beautiful. I am not a list maker in any way but I love your intention about making memories and traditions happen.

So glad to read stories about your thoughts on motherhood. Looks like it became thus far compared the first time I followed you on instagram years back.

Congrats on your new site, dear. I love that it’s easy to navigate.

    Best regards,
    Angie
