Taylor’s Closet Reveal

November 14, 2019

I love decorating kids spaces. I always prioritize Lauren & Taylors room above every other room in our house. Our den is filled with boxes and we still have so much unpacking & organizing to do in our new home. But, I’m ok with this, as I want our kids to feel comfortable and happy in their new rooms, and that includes creating a closet space that they love!

We had the walls painted Simply White by Benjamin Moore in the kids bedrooms and closets. We went with this lighter colour, because of the lighting in our house upstairs. It’s a crisp white with no undertones which we needed. We’ve used this colour before and we love it! It’s an easy colour to work with.

I knew I wanted to add decals or wallpaper to the girls bedroom walls, but I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with their closets. When you open the double doors to Taylors closet, there is a large white wall that was screaming to be decorated. I didn’t have any artwork that would work well in this space, so I decided to use the mini heart decals I received from Urban Walls in her closet instead of her bedroom wall. I love how it turned out!

These decals were a dream to install. They were peal and stick, and you don’t have to worry about pealing off a top layer. I placed the decals randomly all over the back wall of the closet, fairly close together for high impact. It took my no longer than 45 minutes to install!

We incorporated black hardware in Taylor’s closet. It matches the black door knobs we did throughout our home. Our cabinet maker installed a matte black rod to match the hardware which is surprisingly not an easy thing to find. I love the heritage look the black hardware gives off.

We only used one shelf for shoes as most of Taylors shoes are kept in our mudroom. We have lots and lots of baskets in our home, including this closet. I love the warmth they add to a space. They are great for storing just about anything. We keep her swimsuits, dance clothes and other necessities in these baskets, for easy access.

We decorated the counter space in Taylor’s closet with sweet little treasures she has collected over the years. The train that spells her name is from a street vendor in Paris, and the chalkboard is a DIY project I did years ago. I purchased the hanging ballerina from a maker on Etsy for Taylor as a Christmas present two years ago. This is the first time we’ve had the opportunity to display it.
