An Early White Christmas

December 17, 2018

We won’t be home from Christmas, and I was actually considering not decorating our home this year. This will be our first time not spending Christmas at home. We’ve never quite felt settled in our rental, and our new home won’t be ready to move into until next summer. So if there was going to be a year that we went away for Christmas, this was the year.

I’m so glad we decided against this idea and ended up decorating our home for the season. We partnered with our go-to Christmas Store, Canadian Tire. Whether you’re staying home for the holidays or going away, Canadian Tire is your one-stop shop to pick up everything you need – from entertaining supplies, to this year’s must-have toys to, of course, holiday décor!

This year it didn’t make sense to do a real Christmas tree, so we opted for a faux tree that looks real, with the CANVAS pre-lit Appalachian Pine Christmas Tree. You actually have the option between white lights or coloured lights, which is super neat. For a faux tree, it looks really beautiful and now we won’t have to worry about any fire hazards while we’re away.

We will be in Hawaii for Christmas, so I wanted to create the opposite look at home of what we will be enjoying on Christmas Day. We decided to go with the classic White Collection from the CANVAS holiday décor line. It looks like a winter wonderland, with the Nordic inspired furs and snow dusted decorations.

We added our handmade three-year old popcorn garland to the tree, which is surprisingly still in really great shape. And, above the fireplace we hung a wreath that I made at a workshop a few weeks ago. The girls helped with all the decorations on the tree and we added their advent calendar onto the mantle with our stockings. It’s been really nice to pull out a few special items from storage that hold many special memories to compliment all of our new CANVAS decor.

Even though we won’t be home on Christmas day to enjoy this set up, I’m glad we decided to still embrace this tradition. It’s lovely to be able to embrace the décor on the 25th, but I think I prefer enjoying it all the days leading up to the holiday even more.

Comment below with your holiday plans – are you staying home or going away? If you’re going away, did you still decorate?

This is so lovely! I love clean and simple at Christmas. White and light wood are my favourite. Can I ask you about the bells on the fire place? They are so neat! My kids would love them.
    Enjoy your holiday!

Hi! White and wood is my favourite home decor colour in a home too. I bought the bells a few years ago, but I can’t remember where I got them. Sorry!

Beautiful!!! Have fun in Hawaii!!! That’s where I spent Christmas last year with my family. Was the tree hard to put together?

Gorgeous! I love all the white! You probably get asked this ALL THE TIME, but do you have a favorite white wall paint? I just went through a few whites and picked a good one, but is it perfect? Not sure.

Thanks! The white we used on these walls is BM Simply White. I like that it picks up the warm tones in the room.
