our thanksgiving dining room refresh

October 2, 2018

Our dining room furniture has been neglected for years! Our table, chairs and carpet were some of the first few pieces of furniture Cory and I purchased together when we moved in together. That was over 10 years ago now! Our style has changed, and we now have kids in the picture. We were definitely in need of updating this room.
Our style was and still is traditional, but we don’t like items to be as formal as we used to. We want people to feel comfortable in our home, and we don’t want to stress every time our kids spill their food… which still happens quite often! Our beige fabric dining room chairs were lovely while we had them, but they required a lot of upkeep. I’m so happy we replaced them with the Jax Dining Chairs from Canadian’s Tires Canvas line. They are much more suitable for our lifestyle. We eat most meals at this table, Lauren does homework at this table and Taylor crafts here. Having something a bit more durable is going to save me a lot of headaches in our future.
We’re currently living in a rental for the next year while we build our new home. We can’t do any major changes to the home. When the opportunity came to do a #CANVASRoomRefresh with Canadian Tire i felt like the timing was perfect to make some changes in our dining room. It’s important to me to make our living space feel as “homey” as possible while we live here, even if it’s for a short time. Refreshing the furniture in our dining room and putting some thought into the mood we want to create in this room, has already made us happier. We feel more at home. This refresh couldn’t have come at a better time, because i really want to enjoy the Fall holiday season at home entertaining.

I’ll be hosting Thanksgiving this year, which i’m really excited about. We won’t be home for Christmas this year, so Thanskgiving this year is really important to us. In keeping with our neutral theme, i kept things simple with the decor and just used green and white as our main colours. the Quatro Dinnerware Set fits in perfectly. Thank-you to those of you who voted and helped me decide which dinnerware set to use. I really like the fresh, clean lines of it. It also comes with two serving dishes, which will  be great for side dishes like mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts.
I haven’t done our menu yet for Thanksgiving, but now that our dining room is ready, I can focus on it this week. One of the things I’m really excited about is enjoying a French white wine we purchased when we were in Paris this summer. We’ll be enjoying it in our CANVAS white wine glasses and pairing it with a Fall harvest cheese board. I’m so excited to put this together. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, google this to see the most beautiful spreads with rich, vibrant autumn colours. We have the prettiest CANVAS Round Marble & Acacia Wood Board that will work perfectly for this. I’ll share the results!
To my fellow Canadian’s, I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving with your loved ones. Do you have any special items planned on your menu this year? xo

You did such a great job! Everything looks lovely. Love your choices and you style. Can I ask you about the coil wall baskets? I have been looking for the same thing for our dining room.
    Thank you!

Thank-you so much for your sweet message! The wall decor is from a local store in Victoria called Pigeon Home Store.
